  • Date: This year, Mahavir Jayanti falls on April 21, 2024.
  • Birthplace: Lord Mahavir was born in Kundalagrama, Bihar, on the 13th day of the month of Chaitra (according to the Hindu calendar) in either 599 BC (Swetambar Jains’ belief) or 615 BC (Digambar Jains’ belief).
  • Spiritual Journey: At the age of 30, Mahavir renounced his crown, worldly possessions, and pleasures to seek a spiritual path. He spent 12 years in asceticism, meditating and practicing austerity. At 72, he attained enlightenment (Nirvana) and became known as Sage Vardhamana.
  • Teachings: Mahavir emphasized non-violence (ahimsa), truth (satya), non-stealing (asteya), chastity (brahmacharya), and non-attachment (aparigraha). His teachings were compiled by his main disciple, Indrabhuti Gautama.
