The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast for heavy rainfall across several Indian states tonight. This comes as the southwest monsoon continues its advance across the country. Here’s a detailed breakdown of the expected rainfall and the areas likely to be affected.

Heavy Rainfall Expected in North Eastern States

The IMD predicts isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim during the next five days. Additionally, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are expected to receive heavy rainfall tonight and tomorrow (May 31st, 2024).

Monsoon Arrives in Kerala and North East India

The good news is that the southwest monsoon has finally set in over Kerala and advanced into most parts of northeast India. This includes states like Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Meghalaya, and Assam.

The IMD has also predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall over Kerala until June 4th. Furthermore, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Tamil Nadu and Karnataka can expect heavy rainfall from May 31st to June 3rd, respectively.

Strong Winds Expected Along Coastal Andhra Pradesh

Strong surface winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph are likely to lash the coastal regions of Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, and Karnataka between May 31st and June 3rd.
