In a momentous event today, India showcased its defence capabilities through a Tri-Services Live Fire and Manoeuvre Exercise in Pokhran, Rajasthan. Dubbed ‘Bharat Shakti’, this demonstration featured a myriad of indigenous weapon systems and platforms, underscoring the nation’s Aatmanirbharata initiative.
Speaking at the event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the bravery and skill on exhibit as representative of the spirit of the new India. Reminiscent of its earlier nuclear tests, he hailed Pokhran as a monument to the trinity of India’s self-reliance, confidence, and glory. Citing the recent test fire of the long-range AGNI missile fitted with cutting-edge Multiple Independently Targetable Reentry Vehicle (MIRV) technology as a turning point in this journey, the prime minister underlined the importance of indigenization in demonstrating strength.
Central to PM Modi’s address was the notion that Viksit Bharat is inconceivable without Aatmanirbhar Bharat, emphasizing the imperative to reduce dependence on external sources. He highlighted the strides made in various domains, from edible oils to fighter jets, as testimony to India’s commitment to self-sufficiency. The Prime Minister proudly touted achievements in defense manufacturing, including tanks, cannons, fighter jets, helicopters, and missile systems, all bearing the hallmark of ‘Made in India’ excellence.
Enumerating measures to bolster indigenous defense production, PM Modi outlined policy reforms, private sector involvement, and support for MSME startups. He applauded the opening of Asia’s largest helicopter factory in India, as well as the construction of defense corridors in Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh with major investments. Commending the Chiefs of the armed forces for prioritizing indigenous procurement, PM Modi highlighted the substantial procurement from Indian companies over the past decade, fostering a robust defense ecosystem.
The Prime Minister reiterated that self-reliance in defense instills confidence in the armed forces, amplifying their efficacy during conflicts. He recounted milestones achieved, such as the production of fighter jets, aircraft carriers, and advanced flight engines, along with ambitious plans to develop 5th generation fighter jets domestically. PM Modi celebrated India’s transition from being the largest defense importer to a burgeoning exporter, signaling a paradigm shift in the global defense landscape.
Reflecting on the transformative journey, PM Modi acknowledged the eradication of defense scams, revitalization of ordnance factories, and the corporatization of key defense entities like HAL. He proudly cited initiatives like the implementation of One Rank One Pension (OROP), benefiting thousands of service personnel and their families. Recognizing Rajasthan’s pivotal role, PM Modi envisaged a symbiotic relationship between Viksit Rajasthan and a robust defense apparatus.
